ICAR-NINFET organized seminar on “Sustainable Textiles – Standards and Regulations”  

ICAR-National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering Technology organized one day seminar on “Sustainable Textiles- Standards and Regulations” in collaboration with Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), New Delhi in hybrid mode on 18th November 2021.

Dr. R. C. Maheshwari, Former VC, SDAU Gujarat & Chairman RAC, ICAR-NINFET presided over the function as Chief Guest and shared his experiences outlining the potential of natural fibre and their sustainable approaches. He also stressed upon to formulate degree programme on Natural fibre Engineering & Technology management by institute.

Shri A. K. Bera, Scientist-F and Head (Textile), BIS, New Delhi highlighted in details the several goals for sustainable development in textile arena. He also mentioned the role of standards in sustainable textiles with a special reference natural dye.

Dr. D. B. Shakyawar, Director ICAR-NINFET, Kolkata stated the importance of different natural fibres in sustainable textile, their meaningful extraction, quality evaluation & grading, and end use application. Furthermore, the potential of residual biomass for making valued-added products is also highlighted.

Eminent speaker Prof. (Dr.) A. K. Samanta, DJFT, CU shared his rich experience covering the various aspect of sustainable development of textile, scenario of wet chemical processing technology of textile and preventive measure requires in textile to satisfy the sustainable goals. He also highlighted a brief sketch of water consumption, chemical involvement and energy balance in some textile processing.

More than 130 participants from the different academic, research, BIS and other organizations attended the programme.
