ICAR-NINFET organized the Workshop on Fibre Grading Instruments and On-site Digital Jute Grading Camp at Villages

The ICAR- National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering & Technology, Kolkata in collaboration with Jute Corporation of India Ltd. organized a Workshop on “Fibre Grading Instruments & Fibre Grading Systems” on August 2, 2021 at Kolkata. In this context the first ‘Onsite Digital Jute Grading Camp’ was organized during July 29-30, 2021 at Balagarh, Hooghly District, West Bengal.
Cmde. A.K. Jolly, Managing Director, Jute Corporation of India, Govt. of India, marked his presence as the Chief Guest on the occasion. Mr. Anindya Majumder, Chief Marketing Manager and Mr. Kalyan Majumder, General Manager, Jute Corporation of India were among the other guests during the occasion.

In his welcome address, Dr. D.B. Shakyawar, Director, ICAR-NINFET Kolkata briefed about the grading systems and equipments developed by the Institute and their role in jute fibre quality evaluation and fibre procurement chains. He emphasized that digitized grading instruments for fibre grading has been exhibited for the first time at the village level for instant grading of fibres. 
Dr. Biplab Saha, Head, Quality Evaluation & Improvement Division, ICAR-NINFET elaborated the modern grading systems and instruments to the participants in a very lucid language. He urged for giving priority to the ensuring farmers income by getting the proper price of jute through grading in digital grading system.
Eralier, Mr. Subrata Karmakar, Director of Hooghly Vegetable Farmers’ Producer Company has narrated the enthusiasm amongst the farmers for finding a new avenue for getting the assured income from their produce. He applauded the initiative taken by Director, ICAR-NINFET for ensuring farmers income through jute cultivation.

All the Scientists of the Institute, Technical experts from Jute Corporation of India and three hundred farmers from the different villages of Hooghly District attended the programme.
