ICAR-NINFET Organized National Level Campaign on “Food and Nutrition for Farmers” @ Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav on 26.08.2021

ICAR-National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering & Technology, Kolkata has organized a national level campaign on “Food and nutrition for farmers” as a part of the celebration of “Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav”. On this occasion, Dr. Laxmi Kanta Nayak and Dr. Deb Prasad Ray, Principal Scientists of the institute delivered lectures on “Enriched food and nutrition for better health & prosperity of jute farmers” and “Health benefit from jute plants” respectively. The programme was attended by around 70 farmers from different Jute growing districts of West Bengal in online mode and scientists and other officers of the Institute physically.
Dr. D. B. Shakyawar, Director ICAR-NINFET in his deliberation had emphasized upon the need of quality food and better nutrition for farming community. He enlightened the success of ICAR during last 75 years to make our country self-sufficient in food. He also mentioned that now we are giving more stress on improvement in quality of food.

At the beginning, Dr. A.N. Roy, Head, Transfer of Technology Division & Coordinator of the event has briefed the participants about the importance of the programme in the context of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav in general as our farmers are feeding the whole country through their produce.
Dr. S. N. Chattopadhyay, Head, Chemical and Biochemical Processing Division, stressed upon the increase of income which would lead to the betterment of the nutritional health of the farmers.

Few farmers have deliberated about the institute developed “jute leaf-based health drink” and other aspects pertaining to the title of the campaign. The event ended with hearty vote of thanks by Dr. Laxmi Kanta Nayak.
