ICAR-NINFET, Kolkata organized One-day Seminar on Futuristic Approaches on Natural Fibres

One Day Seminar was organized at ICAR-National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering & Technology, Kolkata on physical mode on 4th April 2022

Dr. B. K. Behera, Professor, IIT Delhi has given expert deliberation on the topic “Auxetic Textile structures and Applications”. He discussed the science behind the Auxetic textiles which get fatter when stretched and narrower when compressed. He highlighted the wide range of meaningful applications in the field of medicine, defence, fashion apparel etc.

Dr. Srikanta Samanta Principal Scientist, ICAR-CIFRI had presented on the topic “Arsenic contamination Mitigation -Water Quality in Pond and Wetland”. He highlighted how retting of jute causes a source of contamination and enunciated its mitigation pathways.  

Dr. Najam A. Shakil Principal Scientist, ICAR-IARI deliberated on the “Futuristic Approach of Seed to Market of Fibre Crop” and unlighted the audience about the next IUPAC Congress which is scheduled to be organized in India in the month of March 2023.

In his address, Dr. D.B. Shakyawar, Director of ICAR-NINFET shared that the institute has ventured into research in various out of the box idea like the development of Vegan leather, and the development of fibre reinforced concrete. He discussed that ICAR-NINFET is running many collaborative projects with different prestigious institutes like IIT Roorkee, IIT Kharagpur and expressed his desire to collaborate with ICAR-CIFRI, ICAR-IARI also in different research projects in the upcoming days and also wished success for the upcoming IUPAC congress.

The programme was organized in alignment with the celebration of “Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav” to commemorate 75 Years of India’s Independence.
