Sectorial Campaign on “Processing & Value Addition of Jute Fibre” Organized

Kolkata, May 28, 2022:

A five days long sectorial Campaign on “Processing & Value Addition of Jute Fibre” under Bharat Ka Amrit Mahotsav was organized by ICAR-National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology, Kolkata during May 24-28, 2022 in collaboration of Sasya Shyamala KVK, South 24Pgs., Dhaanyaganga KVK, Murshidabad; North 24 Parganas KVK; Egra Nibedita Social Welfare Society, Egra, Midnapur and Hooghly KVK covering a large jute farming community of five districts of West Bengal to make aware different technologies developed by ICAR-NINFET through series of lectures, distribution of technical leaflets, NINFET Sathi, demonstration of different products developed from jute fibres and various schemes by the Government for doubling of farmers income.

Dr. D.B. Shakyawar, Director, emphasized the contribution of Scientists of ICAR-NINFET towards the research, development & promotion of Natural Fibres and its by-products, its impact on human livelihood and also their effort towards protest against massive use of plastic in modern era through a lecture on “Future Road Map & Contribution of ICAR-NINFET”.

A Webinar-cum-Lecture Series was also organized on various emerging research areas like instrumental Jute Grading System, Jute Blended Yarn for Garment and Furnishing, Jute Leaf Drink as Food Supplement, Jute Based Handicraft and Ban on Single Use Plastic: Opening of a New Era for Natural Fibre Based Products for academician, students and entrepreneurs.

About 500 farmers, academicians, entrepreneurs and farm women including 200 SC community farmer have been participated in this five-day long program and get benefited. The program was coordinated by Dr. S. Debnath, Principal Scientist.
